Lore notes

the stories behind the compass
The Emperor Sealed by an Angel
Fanglongmon's official profile says it was sealed in the deepest, darkest part of the land by an Angel Digimon that descended in ancient times; the lore points to Lucemon. Without their ruler, the four struggled for hegemony until settling into today's equilibrium.
Twelve DigiCores Each
Every Sovereign has four shining eyes and twelve DigiCores floating around its body. An ordinary Digimon holds a single DigiCore inside its body, exposed only in Undead types or the greatest of the Mega class.
Sealed by the Dark Masters
In Adventure 02, the Dark Masters had sealed the Four Holy Beasts. Freeing Azulongmon took the Holy Stones, the D-3s, and the older Chosen giving up the power of their Crests to break the seal.
Kyoto's Guardians
Adventure 02 mirrors the myth in the human world: a Kyoto professor explains that the Four Holy Beasts guard the city's cardinal points against evil spirits, in the place where the barrier between the two worlds is at its weakest.
More Than a Mega
All four have reigned since the era of myth, with strength said to rival the gods. Zhuqiaomon's profile warns that the power of a mere Mega will not suffice to defeat it.
