A Title, Not a Team
The four never work as a team; their sheer power alone earned them the name. Dragon Digimon can never ignore them either, since the four set trials for the rest of dragonkind.
The Trial of the Four Great Dragons
Slayerdramon's form is said to be attainable only by completing the training known as the Trial of the Four Great Dragons, a challenge that only Dragon Digimon may face.
Two Claims to the Top
The four are said to stand at the top of all Dragon Digimon, yet Examon's official profile crowns a rival: as the ultimate Dragon Digimon, the Royal Knight bears the title of Dragon Emperor. No profile arbitrates between the two claims, and the only bridge is a game one: in Digimon Story: Lost Evolution, Slayerdramon, forged by the four's Trial, Jogresses with Breakdramon into Examon.
The Day Megidramon Was Spared
In Digimon New Century, Megidramon lost control and the other three struck their companion down, regressing it to Guilmon. Goldramon argued for eliminating it; Azulongmon and Magnadramon spared it hoping life among other Digimon would change its heart.
Rankings Within the Four
The profiles rank the quartet: Azulongmon is the most exalted and deified of the four, Goldramon holds the strongest magical power, and Megidramon's personality is so fiendish it bears no resemblance to the other three.
Never Assembled on Screen
The four have never appeared together in an anime or manga; the group's lore lives in the official profiles, the card game and games such as Digimon New Century.
