Knights of the Round Table
The name is sometimes extended to Royal Knights of the Round Table. Yggdrasill, the host computer that rules the Digital World, assembled the thirteen knights as the highest rank of Network Security and personally grants the title.
The Thirteenth Seat
For years the order counted only twelve members for lack of a worthy candidate. Gankoomon put Hackmon through its harsh training regimen; when it finally evolved into Jesmon, the long-vacant thirteenth seat was filled and the order completed.
Two Knights Served Lucemon
In Frontier, Dynasmon and Crusadermon saw Lucemon as the only one able to bring order to a chaotic Digital World, and harvested the DigiCode of whole Areas to release it from the Dark Area. Every knight is righteous; each follows its own justice.
Rivals Across Worlds
The order keeps a natural rivalry with the Seven Great Demon Lords, and its power is said to be rivaled only by the Olympos XII, who watch over Digital World: Iliad, a Digital World on another server of the network.
The Founder's Crisis
Imperialdramon Paladin Mode founded the order as the one who saved the ancient Digital World from total collapse in a time of unprecedented crisis. As Gankoomon puts it in Cyber Sleuth, the title is not just handed out: a knight must first have protected the world.
The Empty Thirteenth Screen
In the movie X-Evolution the twelve knights confer through a circle of twelve viewscreens with an empty space for a thirteenth, and Alphamon is acknowledged but said to not actually exist. Not even the knights can physically meet Yggdrasill.
Justice Divided in Data Squad
In Data Squad, Yggdrasill deems humanity unworthy and orders the knights to destroy the Real World before it drags the Digital World down with it. Their battles with DATS and the influence of Kentaurosmon make the order waver, knight by knight.
